McDonald's to install WiFi

Have laptop - will travel. Laptop-owning hamburger fans will soon be able to surf the net while enjoying their Big Mac and fries.

BT announced that it is to install high-speed wireless, or WiFi, internet access at McDonald's outlets across the UK. Once implemented, this will allow McDonald's customers with WiFi-enabled laptops (or PDAs) to remotely access the internet from within its restaurants.

If you have a laptop with WiFi, you can now get internet access at public 'hotspots' like airports, motorway service stations and coffee-shops - and even on some trains. At present, there are two main competing public access WiFi networks in the UK - T-Mobile and BT.

The T-Mobile HotSpot network is available at over 50 UK locations, including Starbucks coffee shops and Borders bookshops. BT Openzone is at various motorway service stations, selected Costa Coffee coffee-shops, hotels (including Hiltons and Days Inn) and Heathrow & Gatwick airports.
